IM BACK fr tai-wan! i got a little mousy for Dean and im calling it Chucky.. just like chucky- the good guy.. chucky's gonna kill you tonight.
the past 8 days has been power packed .. pumped up with fun and excitment epitomised only in those hundreds of photos in the cameras. this trip has been full of walking, finding some lost national treasure using maps and more maps. taiwan's a nice place.. it's like rural hongkong. i like hongkong. i like the fast pace of life. i think taiwan's pace is someone like singapore. the weather is definitely better and cooler, but the air is smoky and makes me go ill. taiwan has roads that crisscross each other, laden with tonnes of scooters with non-functional catalytic convertors. the scooters are a trademark of taiwan. everyone uses scooters and they are sold everywhere. there are more scooters than bicycles, or lorries, or cars, or buses.. probably not. the scooters drive onto every small roads.. even those paths that look as if they are solely for pedestrians. the thing is that the traffic is horrible. the scooters take priority. its perfectly all right to have one speeding straight at your face. even the traffic lights are ridiculus because the length of time allowed for those on two feet to cross them are not proportional to their length. you might need to cross a long road in 25 seconds but a short one in 60 seconds because the short one is parallel to a very busy road.
Night markets are novel at the first , second and probably third encounter. then they cause disutility, boredom, de-specialisation, labour turnover, absenteeism, whatever. other than shilin, liu huo, hsimenting, etc., there's not much night life over at taiwan. the shops close at 12 and shilin becomes a ghost town by 0100. Its probably because of the length of day and night in taiwan. daytime is from 5 plus to 1700. darkness falls very very early. We thought of going to Taiwan clubs ( and probably shake to the grooves of david tao) but that didnt really happen. neither did we have the chance to soak in those hot or cold springs. what a waste. anyway, dont worry if you are those late birds who wake at 1200 and sleep at 4. A couple of LAN stores are always around the corner to let you thrash out those pesky taiwanese boys who seriously think they're so pro at CS. the games are extremely cheap too!
the sights and sounds. we went to a sad zoo (where the animals cannot move, because they are so tired from the pushing and prodding and the lack of nutritious food), gigantic lakes with swarming flies, towering skyscrappers that are so manificent when observed from distance(but unpenetrable), beaches, islands, ferry boat rides, rivers and more beaches. ( i am seriously surprised because they can actual make a beach a PRIVAte GOOD by making it rivalled and excludable - cordoning off the area and charging fixed initial charge for usage). taiwan sand is black, and clean, littered with much sea shells. the waves are strong and roaring, but not that overwhelming. the seawater is clear, icy cold.. and the coastal wind chills to the bone. each island means streets of sea food.. fresh and juicy, succulent and irressistable delicacies not for the faint hearted. Janfusan is a hill. its a hill with an amusement park with a ferris wheel that is absolutely gigantic. other than that, a few thrill rides, a day of fun and fear.
of the three major cities i visited, taipei's still the best. kaohsiung is not too fun because it has sad beaches and a dismal zoo. taipei's colder (around 18 degrees at night) . Taiwanese are also a strange lot. they may appear unruly as observed by their flagrant and reckless road behaviour, but deep down, they are very honest and trustworthy. they make sure lost wallets are found by their owners, and they wait a couple of hours to return lost passports to their owners. Oh MY! thats madly honest and touching. we singaporeans cannot compare ourselves to them..
i miss taiwan. naruwan.
here i come thailand

GOOD NEWS...
i have decided to stop soccer punting. For good. it is an extremely costly hobby.. cost me my life savings. indeed, i have learnt that gambling is evil, cruel, and saps u clean and dry. if i am going to be a catholic, i need to understand that i will not be allowed to bet.. or punt.. or what so ever. curse tottenham. curse it away with me 3k.. sigh
Great.. so im going to taiwan in a couple of hrs. NARUWAN!
taiwan is a bountiful land of grapes and vineyards. thinking of all the ye shi just makes me hungry.. yum. gotta start running when i come back if im gonna be a Combat Fit pes Cian.im going to thailand for a wk or two after christmas.. Business trip. then i'll probably find some job to waste the rest of my january away before the 22nd. where i lose my total freedom.
its the 13th today. i wonder how edwin and the others are doing? i wonder what they'll do in the 3 wks IPPT.. hope he'll pass his standing broad jump when i go in.. he will be a brand new muscle siew.
came back from malaysia earlier this week. malaysian are rather rude. not all.. but many of em. they like to push and cut queues.. not so nice people, those malaysians. genting was nice and cool (hopefully taiwan is cooler) but the theme park was ABsolutely horrible. i cant remember doing less in any other theme park. i took only 4 rides cuz the queues were longer than dragons. one hour plus for a 30 second ride. HORRIble. so i went back to the hotel and stoned , went to the casino to whack out the coins from the slot machine. i went down to KL the second day.. and i verified my discovery that malaysian.. uh hrm.. are quite inconsiderate anyway. they like to push and jostle as if they derive much pleasure from such actions. so i was quite pissed to be pushed here and there in crowds and unruly mobs of brown skinneys. anyway, i just went to KLCC, shopped around, went to the park, had lunch n dinner, then headed back up to genting... nice view from the cable car though...
joel is lying dead on my sofa now and im considering if i should go take a nap.. China Airlines is obviously a higher-class-no-frills-airlines. so i think the best activity i can take part in would be to sleep through the journey. probably around 6 hours.
k. enough said.
see you in 9 days!
